Microsoft is at it again

"Microsoft is profiting from punishment...The company has been obliged to open up its protocols as a result of the Antitrust settlement in the US, but the fees it's charging don't reflect that it was found guilty, and is being punished....they should be licensed for free.

...If you're creating a piece of network software or hardware that needs to talk to a Microsoft file system - a printer, storage server, or a piece of middleware - you must agree to pay Microsoft $50,000 up front in Prepaid Royalties. The fee then depends on how many users the product has, and what is accessed....

Add-on PlayStation 3 HDD will run Linux

News at GameSpot:

Ken Kutaragi reveals the console's hard drive will use alternate OS, hints that it will ship separately and will come in more than one model.

Since E3, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi has been calling the PlayStation 3 an 'entertainment supercomputer' rather than a gaming console. Now, he's revealed a new plan to make sure that it's acknowledged as one.

In an interview with Impress PC Watch, Kutaragi disclosed that he plans to install the Linux operating system on the PS3's hard disc drive (HDD) so it will be recognized as a computer, rather than a mere console."

Open letter to Apple about its marriage with Intel

WOW......just WOW!

"Dear Apple, I am among the many switchers you successfully brought to your platform. And now I plan to switch back. Simply put, after reading this press release, I no more think the Mac has any future as an interesting hardware or software platform. I further believe that you have made such a bafflingly shortsighted decision that I worry about the sanity of your management staff, enough to dread more of these moves. I also disbelieve most of the claims that have been made today as purely hilarious.

I do not expect you to keep reading beyond the latest paragraph but I'll keep typing anyway."

Full Letter Here.....

This is a GOOOOOOD day......I think?

Apple throws the switch, aligns with Intel | CNET News.com: "CEO Steve Jobs announced Monday that Apple will gradually shift its Mac line to Intel-based chips over the next two years. The move confirms a timetable first reported by CNET News.com.

Jobs' announcement formed the centerpiece of a keynote speech to Mac programmers attending the company's annual Worldwide Developer Conference here. The conference, expected to draw some 3,800 attendees this year, is a traditional venue for Apple product launches."

YES! - Protect our Children

BetaNews | New 'XXX' Domains for Adult Web Sites: "New 'XXX' Domains for Adult Web Sites
By Ed Oswald, BetaNews
June 2, 2005, 11:56 AM

Internet users looking for -- or blocking -- pornography will have a much easier time thanks to a new top-level domain name just approved by ICANN. The group responsible for overseeing the world's domain names approved the '.xxx' domain, which British company ICM Registry will be in charge of managing.

The new domains could appear as soon as the end of the year, according to ICANN. Dot-xxx was part of 9 other new domains being considered by the organization. Consumers will be able to purchase the new domains for $60 per year. ICM says it will work with companies to voluntarily move them over to the new domain in order to help protect children from seeing inappropriate content."

Migrating from Windows to Linux?

The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux. (Official site of the table): "The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux.
Last update: 16.07.2003, 31.01.2005, 27.05.2005

You can always find the last version of this table on the official site:
http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/.

This page on other languages: Russian, Italian, Spanish, French, German.

One of the biggest difficulties in migrating from Windows to Linux is the lack of knowledge about comparable software. Newbies usually search for Linux analogs of Windows software, and advanced Linux-users cannot answer their questions since they often don't know too much about Windows :). This list of Linux equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software is based on our own experience and on the information obtained from the visitors of this page (thanks!)."

Should I be OFFENDED by the term 'AFRICAN AMERICAN'?

I suppose this is a call to Only the folks that call them selves African American (however anyone may comment).

First, I should state that I am an American male of African decent. OK.....There goes...I'm just going to ramble in no particular order.

I need YOU to help me understand why I should accept (aside from that fact that it's on government documents) the term African American as a label for my family and I. It's rather offensive to me (and should be to African born Americans, which can be of any race) because it implies that I'm half 1/2 African and 1/2 American. Though I am not 100% pleased with America or my neighbors I am VERY proud to be American. I would suspect that my neighbors as well as America is not 100% pleased with me and would hope that they don't try to find a way to disassociate themselves with me. Yes I do believe that we Americans of African descent are trying very hard to disassociate ourselves from America when we are as much a part of THIS land as anyone else...Like any other race we have both honored, improved, glorified, built-up, tore-down, and disgraced America.

I was born: Jeff Thomas III
In: Los Angeles, CA - 1975 - (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA)
Never been to Africa - though I would like to go...And that still doesn't make me an African.

America: The Good Neighbor

TwinValleyONLINE: "America: The Good Neighbor

A remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator.

'This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth...

...Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States...

...Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded..." complete artical here.

Adobe to acquire Macromedia

Adobe Systems Incorporated has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Macromedia in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately US$3.4 billion.

The companies plan to meet a wider set of customer needs and have a significantly greater opportunity to grow into new markets, particularly in the mobile and enterprise segments.

"Customers are calling for integrated software solutions that enable them to create, manage and deliver a wide range of compelling content and applications -- from documents and images to audio and video," said Bruce Chizen, chief executive officer of Adobe. "By combining our powerful development, authoring and collaboration software -- along with the complementary functionality of PDF and Flash -- Adobe has the opportunity to bring this vision to life with an industry-defining technology platform."

Under the terms of the agreement, which has been approved by both boards of directors, Macromedia stockholders will receive, at a fixed exchange ratio, 0.69 shares of Adobe common stock for every share of Macromedia common stock in a tax-free exchange. Based on Adobe's and Macromedia's closing prices on Friday, 15 April 2005, this represents a price of US$41.86 per share of Macromedia common stock. Upon the close of the transaction, Macromedia stockholders will own approximately 18 percent of the combined company on a pro forma basis.

In the combined company, Chizen will continue as chief executive officer and Shantanu Narayen will remain president and chief operating officer. Stephen Elop, president and chief executive officer of Macromedia, will join Adobe as president of worldwide field operations. Murray Demo will remain executive vice president and chief financial officer. Dr. John Warnock and Dr. Charles Geschke will remain as co-chairmen of the Board of Directors of the combined company and Rob Burgess, chairman of the Macromedia Board of Directors, will join the Adobe Board.

The two companies are developing integration plans and there will be additional details and information about the acquisition available at the Adobe website at later date.

"While we anticipate the integration team will identify opportunities for cost savings by the time the acquisition closes, the primary motivation for the two companies' joining is to continue to expand and grow our business into new markets," said Chizen.

Adobe also announced its Board of Directors has approved a post-acquisition stock repurchase program of US$1 billion. "After a review of the combined companies' financial position, our Board concluded that the repurchase program is consistent with our overall commitment to deliver value to our stockholders," Chizen added.

The repurchase program is in addition to the Adobe's existing stock repurchase programs and is expected to commence following the completion of the acquisition. The repurchases will be funded from available working capital.

DistroWatch on Microsoft.com

Folks, we have done it - DistroWatch is now linked directly from a web page at Microsoft.com! It is a page discussing computer security (of all pages) and although the article has generated negligible amount of traffic for this web site, it still represents an interesting point of view. Naturally, don't expect much flattery on account of Linux, but don't dismiss the article either - the author presents some interesting points.

Is It Starting? - Man Implants Tag in Hand

Man Implants Tag in Hand
Thursday, March 24 2005

This guy implanted an RFID chip in his hand.

"Well, the RFID chip is finally in. Now it's time to get on with buying a house that I can deck out with RFID sensors. But, probably before I get a chance to do that, I'm going to put a sensor in my car door. One small step for hand, one giant leap for keyless entry. Another thing I'm going to work on is figuring out how to write a custom GINA for Windows and putting a sensor into my keyboard so when I place my hands on it, the system will automatically log me in."

(Revelation 20:4)
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

By Brian Briggs

Redmond, WA - Microsoft purchased evil from Satan for $2.7 billion after many months of tough negotiations.

'We've been after Satan for some time,' said CEO Steve Ballmer. 'Negotiations were tough, but I think both Microsoft and the Prince of Darkness are happy with this deal."
